Candle Care & Safety

To ensure candle safety and maximise your candle's lifespan, please follow the care and safety instructions below

  • Trim the wick to 5mm before each burn to prevent smoking, sooting and uneven burning.  Our wicks are self trimming but they may need trimming before each burn.
  • Place on a heat resistant, stable surface away from flammable materials
  • Keep the candle away from drafts, children and pets and never leave your candle unattended
  • Burn your candle for 4 hours on the first burn to ensure an even melt pool and avoid tunnelling
  • Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time
  • Keep the wax pool clean of any wick trimmings or matches
  • User a candle snuffer to put out the flame
  • Allow the candle to cool before relighting
  • Discontinue use of the candle when there is 1cm of wax remaining at the bottom

There may be some unevenness in the cooled wax after burning - this is completely normal and part of the burning process of natural wax.  It doesn't affect the quality or lifespan of the candle so please do not worry - embrace the lumpiness!

When you have finished with your candle the glass container can be recycled (in line with your local guidelines) or simply wash the jar in warm soapy water to reuse and repurpose.

Packaging

Our commitment to sustainability covers all areas of our business including our packaging.

We use a mixture of packaging to ensure your candle arrives in perfect condition.

Our gift boxes are fully recyclable and our doubled sided satin ribbon is made from plastic bottles saved from landfill, compostable, vegan friendly, eco friendly and fully recyclable.

We use natural zig zag shredded paper to fill any gaps and keep your candle snug. This is sustainably sourced with PEFC certification.  It is 100% recycled and recyclable and is biodegradable in your home compost bin.

Our kraft shipping boxes are made from sustainable materials and are fully recycled/recyclable and our paper packaging tape is an eco-conscious alternative to plastic tape.

FAQs

What is tunnelling?

Tunnelling occurs when the wick of a candle burns straight down the centre of a candle and doesn't melt the wax to the edge of the container.  This creates a tunnel like hole leaving a ring of unburnt wax around the edge.  All of our candles have been thoroughly tested and provided you burn your candle for a minimum of 4 hours on the first burn you shouldn't have any issues.

On subsequent burns, ensure you have a full wax pool melt before extinguishing (around 1-4 hours should be sufficient).

What is mushrooming?

Mushrooming or clubbing is a black ball at the end of the wick which can look like a tiny mushroom - it is caused by a build up of carbon.  If you notice a mushroom you should remove this before each burn using a wick trimmer or a pair of sharp scissors.  Always trim the wick to 5mm before each burn and make sure you don't leave any debris in wax pool as it will cause discolouration and make the wax look dirty.

My candle has some lumps and cavities after burning, is this normal?

Yes!  Due to the burning process of natural wax, there may be some unevenness in the cooled wax after burning - this is completely normal so please do not worry.  It doesn't affect the quality or lifespan of your candle and it should even out after subsequent burns - embrace the lumpiness!

How long will my candle last?

Our candles have a burn time of approximately 36-40 hours.  Remember not to burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time and you should allow it to cool fully before relighting.

How will my order be packaged for shipping?

All candles are carefully wrapped in recycled and recyclable materials.  This ensures your candle stays safe in transit and arrives in perfect condition.

Where can I buy your candles?

You can purchase these online via our website.  We hope to be attending some local markets soon which will be advertised on our socials and newsletters.

How can I help save the butterflies?

To help the butterfly population consider the following actions

  • Plant native wildflowers in your garden which can provide nectar for the butterflies and create habitats for them to thrive
  • Create butterfly friendly gardens and try to incorporate plants that bloom throughout the butterfly season
  • Avoid using pesticides in your garden which are harmful to butterflies and other wildlife
  • Participate in the Big Butterfly Count which takes place annually in July-August
  • Join a butterfly conversation group or take part in fundraising events
